Alec Clayton Howe Dougan

Angels Info

Name: Alec Clayton Howe Dougan
Age: 23
Location: Manchester, Connecticut
DOD: July 6th, 2016

Angels Bio:

Our beautiful son, Alec Clayton Howe Dougan, died on July 6th of a heroin overdose. He was 23 years old. Alec came into the world, a golden boy. He was born at Hartford Hospital on May 9, 1993, Mothers Day. He brought with him into this world a light that, even in his death, will never be extinguished. He attended St. Rose School in East Hartford, Bennett Jr. High in Manchester and Manchester High School. He then moved to Groton and spent a brief time at Robert E. Fitch High School. The things Alec wanted to know, he was not going to find in a classroom. He left school and pursued his GED, performing so well on his exams that he was awarded a State Diploma. Alec was a beautiful soul, both philosopher and poet. He read his first poem publicly at the age of nine, at the Greater Hartford Academy for the Arts. It was a beautiful poem, beyond his years, about a ripple in a pond; asking it “Where do you go? What do you become?”. Now he is my ripple. From his parents he inherited a passion for music. Like his father, Alec formed his own lightshow company, and provided the backdrop for many bands in and around Southern New England. Alec had an unquenchable thirst for life; for living, for experiencing. This led him to travel throughout the United States, hitchhiking and couch surfing. He met so many people and touched so many lives, making lifelong friends along the way. His smile and laughter were infectious. Once you knew Alec, you would never forget him. He was a loving and giving boy, and he grew to become that same kind of man. Alec loved spending time with his family and could get us all laughing so hard we had tears in our eyes. He had a chance to do that the weekend before he died, at a big Saturday wedding with his father’s side of the family. Sunday was spent at a 4th of July picnic with his mom’s side. Alec was funny and engaging, and we got to meet his new girlfriend. He played Twister and Wiffle ball with his brother and sister. That boy cannot bat. We listened to the Grateful Dead, and it was like our old Alec. I thought we had made it to the other side; but it was just his last gift to us, and I thank him for that. He relapsed in the following days. Among those he leaves behind, are his mother, Dawn Howe, whose sun rose and set with him, and her husband Lawrence Taylor of Groton; his father Kenneth Dougan of Manchester; his brother, Nicholas Dougan, and sister, Riley Howe of Groton; his maternal grandmother, Gloria Fletcher of Bolton; and his paternal grandparents, Jaqueline and Paul Dougan of Manchester. He is also survived by his aunts, Doreen McIntyre and Leslie Weerden of Manchester; his aunt Deborah Everett and partner Paul Flaherty of Bloomfield; his aunt Susan Hutz of Bigfork, Montana; his uncle Kevin Dougan and wife Ellen of Manchester; and his uncle Kurt Dougan and wife Christine of Barkhamstead. He will be greatly missed by his great aunts and uncles, and his many, many cousins who grew up alongside him. “Sketch”, as his friends called him, will be sadly missed by so many in both the Mystic and Manchester areas. Calling hours for family and friends are from 1-3 and 5-8 on Wednesday, July 13th, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. A private burial will be at East Cemetery in Manchester. Lisa Marie Andreana

Angels Info

Name: Lisa Marie Andreana
Age: 22
Location:Newington, Connecticut
DOD: May 25, 2016

Angels Bio:

With profound sadness we mourn the passing of our dear daughter, Lisa Marie Andreana, age 22, who entered into eternal peace on June 1, 2016 due to a heroin overdose after a long and courageous battle with addiction. While we are deeply saddened to see her go, we are relieved that her struggle has ended and she is now at peace. She grew up a happy spirited child with a love for family, the beach, soccer, running, reading, writing poetry, quilting (a love she shared with her Mema) and was an accomplished pianist. She was a very spiritual girl with a kind and caring soul. She touched so many people and always encouraged them to do their best even in her times of great struggle. She was quick to laugh and loved her family with all her heart. She was a 2012 graduate of Berlin High School and was a student at SCSU before her illness took hold. She leaves behind her mother Amy Andreana, her father Robert Andreana, her beloved brother Bobby Andreana, and her half-brother Nolan all from Berlin, CT; her grandparents Raymond & Ginger Rondini of Newington, and Eloise Andreana (Grand El) of Berlin. She also leaves her special Aunt Pam Lavery of Berlin and cousins Raymond and Samantha her sister-cousin. She is also survived by her Aunt Heather Andreana & Uncle Rob O’Connor of Chicago, her Uncle Jeff, of New London, her Mom’s significant other Jay Toner and his two daughters Megan and Madison of New Hartford and a loving supportive extended family with many Aunts, Uncles and close cousins. It is the family’s hope that the cruel disease of addiction will trend toward a broader degree of acceptance and de-stigmatization and a sense of urgency will be brought to this brutal health crisis affecting so many families. Lisa was a strong willed young lady who tried to fight addiction her way but ultimately lost the battle. We will love and miss her for the rest of our lives. Funeral services for Lisa Marie will be held Thursday, at 9:00 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to the Walter Hoving Home, 40 Walter Hoving Road, Garrison, NY 10524. To share a memory with Lisa Marie’s family, please visit us at www.newingtonmemorial.com

James H. Helmer

Angels Info

Name: James H. Helmer
Age: 38
Location:Beaver Dam, Wisconsin
DOD: May 25, 2016

Angels Bio:

James H. Helmer, age 38, of Beaver Dam, ended his life on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 because he couldn’t withstand the pain of addiction any longer.

The memorial gathering will be at Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

James Howard Helmer was born on June 14, 1977 to Michael and Gretchen (Bendix) Helmer. He attended Beaver Dam High School and was a 1995 graduate. James went on to PC Pro School and earned a certificate in IT. He was a master at so many things and had many titles which included a welder, painter, quality control inspector, racecar driver-“Hamburger Helmer”, and mentor. He drove car #7 at the Jefferson Speedway and won numerous trophies and a Track Championship. He had a contagious smile and could always make you laugh. James started using prescription pain medication and became addicted. He turned to heroin to try to make himself feel better because the pain of withdrawal was so sickening. James lost everything in order to support his addiction. Heroin made him give up life as a father, son, and brother and made him believe that it could make him feel normal. Heroin was more powerful than words a mother could say to her dying son; more powerful than a five year old boy could say to his dying dad. It is strong but it can be beat. Don’t wait until tomorrow. Fight today. Please visit StopHeroinNow.org and see what you can do to help end this growing disease.

James will be missed by his son, Mason of Mayville; mother, Gretchen Gallenbeck (Dan Respalje) of Markesan; father, Michael (Tracy) Helmer of Neenah; sisters, Chandel (Dan) Bingen of Taycheedah, and Heather (Todd) Vande Kolk of Waupun; niece and nephews, Tyler Wendt, Cody Wendt, Calista Muraski, Gavin Bingen, and Brady Bingen; great nephew, Kayden Wendt; maternal grandpa, Gene (Susan) Bendix of Arizona; countless number of friends and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his step dad, Arnold Gallenbeck, Jr.; paternal grandparents, and maternal grandma.

If desired, memorials to the family would be appreciated.

The Koepsell-Murray Funeral Home in Beaver Dam is caring for the family. To leave online condolences, or for directions and other information, please visit our website at www.KoepsellFH.com.

Travis battled a demon for roughly the last seven years. She made him feel inspiration for only a brief moment in time and then she was gone. Travis chased her and she had his heart. He fought to leave her and eventually left her many times and was better, but she always made her way back into his presence and the cycle would repeat itself. Eventually she took Travis’s life. Heroin. She has taken the lives of many. We are not alone. This is an epidemic that is in fact a disease and it needs to be treated as such.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer, where parting prayers will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, followed by Catholic funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church, Russellton, with the Rev. James P. Holland officiating. He will be privately laid to rest next to his grandmother, Rose.
