Lost The Battle: 10/24/2018

ABOUT ME:

Robert had the biggest smile and an infectious laugh. As A teen he was a social butterfly ! A magnetic personality his peers were drawn to, In Roberts late teens we began to see signs of mental illness. By 21, Robert was Diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia. He fought for his Sanity every day of his life since the age of 16. He was the strongest person I ever knew. He lost his life due to a heroin overdose but I refuse to except this. My brother went to numerous hospitals with chest pain and cough bc he had a history of addiction he wasn’t taken seriously. No blood tests, EKG or Xrays. Because of his mental illness and substance abuse he was pushed aside like trash. ON HIS AUTOPSY it states Robert had double pneumonia and 83 percent blockage of the heart. He was alive an coded in the hospital. If these hospitals asked him his family history they would have known my aunt Roberts aunt had a bypass at 35, Our Father had one at 45 and grandmother at 70 and both grandfather’s had strokes. They pushed Robert away in fear that he was drug seeking instead of taking a simple EKG to show heart issues and an X-ray to show his pneumonia. I begged the mental illness housing he was in to Move him as 3 people had overdosed in that apartment and no one listened. Until it was too late, We need to start have care an compassion for the mentally ill and those in the throws of addiction! I know Robert is with God and has found peace and for this I am thankful. I just can not stand by and allow another family deal with the tremendous heartache we have. PLEASE HARD LOVE WORKS, BUT THE WORD LOVE is included. Deny money, deny a roof, but don’t deny healthcare, don’t deny communication. It is important that our loved ones in addiction know they are loved, keep in touch so when no body hears from them actions can be taken to help ASAP. And for those sick and SUFFERING, YOU ARE LOVED.

Name: Jessica Therese Marquez
Age: 54
Location: South Salt Lake, Utah
Lost The Battle: May 19, 2022

ABOUT ME:

I am so very sorry to say that the Light carried Jessica Therese Marquez to her Heavenly home on May 19, 2022.   Born in Ft. Riley, Kansas, to Myriam Therese Marquez and Frank E. Davis on September 10, 1967. Jessica grew up in Aberdeen, Maryland, eventually residing and spending most of her adult years near Salt Lake City, Utah.   She is survived by her two children, Providencia Angelica Moreno and Victor Anthony Marquez, whom she loved so very dearly and meant the world to her.   Jessica was a beautiful woman who gained attention everywhere she went. She was short in height, and quite the firecracker, life of the party. She was able to balance her graceful femininity and her adventurous “tomboy” side so well.    She could be found hollering and cheering while watching NASCAR or attending the demolition derby. Jessica loved hiking and the outdoors in her early days, favorites being anywhere near the Chesapeake Bay or Southern Utah.    She was a romantic at heart, with the daintiest handwriting you’ve ever seen. Her closet always full of long floral and lace dresses, paired with pearls around her neck and her favorite perfume, Paloma Picasso.    Jessica faced many hurdles at a young age and fought a big fight, yet she always chased love and light. Surrounding herself with spiritual anchors, a lover of astrology, angels, crystals, and Jesus Christ.   She battled with addiction most of her life, eventually passing from an accidental overdose.   Jessica always had so much positivity and hope for the future, and was so fun to be around, whether you were dancing or crying together. She would do anything for her friends or to protect her children. She loved and felt deeply.    She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Forest and Autumn Moreno. Her mother Myriam Marquez, two sisters Gina Beaudette and Melanie Langley. Her previous long-time partners, Paul Robinson, Robert Ortega, and Justin Barney.   Our guardian angel in Heaven is now watching over her family, accompanied by her beloved grandmother, Providencia Zeigler, and her sister, Amy Caudill, along with her other ancestors. She is loved dearly.     Published by SereniCare Funeral Services – South Salt Lake on Nov. 9, 2022.

Name: Daniel Robert Kalinowski
Age: 27
Location: Newark, Delaware
Lost The Battle: October 2022

ABOUT ME:

On October 26, 1994, Daniel Robert Kalinowski was born in Newark, Delaware to Catherine A. Downs and Jon D. Kalinowski. Sadly, just days before his 28 birthday, Daniel passed away from an accidental drug overdose in October 2022.Daniel graduated in 2013 from James H. Groves High School and attended Delaware Technical and Community College. He most recently worked at McGlynn’s Pub.Daniel was blessed with good health and a natural athleticism which he inherited from his dad. He enjoyed and excelled in many different sports such as soccer, baseball and ice hockey. Daniel was always fearless and it showed in his style of play and in his life. He was a terrific goalie in hockey, playing with the Snipers and as guest goalie for the Delaware Junior Blue Hens he was named MVP when they won the tournament. Daniel always made the All-Star team during his many years playing baseball with Canal Little League. After baseball, Daniel played lacrosse for a couple of seasons. His passion, however, was skateboarding. Early on, Daniel won a street competition in Wilmington and went on to earn the nickname “Shredder”. He was always up for a game of “S.K.A.T.E.” and he and his dad (mostly his dad!) put together a makeshift skate area with a quarter pipe ramp, box and rails and would often have fun competing with each other. Daniel also enjoyed going to the beach, where he would go surfing and boogie boarding with his dad and sister, Katie. Oftentimes, they would make a quick trip to the C & D Canal to get some fishing in and his Grandpop, George, would join them. Daniel, Katie and his Grandpop would often go to Lums Pond State Park for outdoor adventures. Daniel was a smart, funny and kind individual who had a heart for those less fortunate; whether it be people or animals. He had the ability to make friends easily and would often meet and make a new friend during family vacations. He was also a Philadelphia Flyers and Phillies fan and enjoyed going to the games. Daniel will be missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his mom, Catherine “Cathy” Downs; sister, Kathryn “Katie” Kalinowski; son, Theo George Muller and paternal grandmother, Elizabeth “Betty” Kalinowski, along with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Jon D. Kalinowski; paternal grandfather, George W. Kalinowski; uncle, William Kalinowski and maternal grandparents, Robert L. and Vivian M. Downs. Special thanks to Pastor Morgan Ikonne who never gave up on Daniel and was always there for him and the one person in whom Daniel felt he could confide. Thank you to Dan, Tory, Shymere and Lt. Herring of the NCC Hero Help program for their efforts to aid and support overcoming addiction. Thanks also to Dave Humes and others at Attack Addiction who have been at the forefront to bring drug addiction into conversation and to the Legislative floor.
