Sara Jean Peterson, 37, died of a heroin overdose on June 5th, 2020, in her home, alone. Not surrounded by the family or friends that loved her more than she loved herself. Sara was working on getting back into treatment, but treatment did not come fast enough. Her 4 kids are without their Mom, who they adored, as much as she adored them. Sara always said, “I can do this! I got this!” and worked hard at recovery. She attended Celebrate Recovery and NA meetings but struggled with not being able to attend in person due to the “Stay at Home” order. She had so many loving and caring friends, all she had to do was reach out to them and they were there for her. Recently Sara had 5 years heroin free and was so proud of herself.

She was born on September 17th, 1982 in Duluth Minnesota to Patrick and Laura Peterson. She attended Denfeld and Unity High Schools.

Sara loved spending time with family and friends cooking for them, having a BBQ or just hanging out talking. She loved going to the beach, “smileys” on Seven Bridges road and just driving around to check things out with her kids. Her 2 nieces and nephew meant the world to her and she was so proud to be their “aunty”. She enjoyed crafting with her kids and was always so proud of the things they created together. She was always making gifts for people and coming up with ideas for new craft projects for the future to do for others. She had so much love to give. Always offering to help others out and be there for them. Her smile, laughter and humor were just some of the things that made her so special.

Sara was preceded in death by her Grandparents, Linda and Isiah Cooper and Raymond and Shirley Peterson and by her Uncle Kalvin Peterson.

She is survived by her 4 children; Jonavin (Elyssa Fall ) Stewart age 19, Josie Espinoza age 13, Elijah Espinoza age 9 and Jaxon Hill age 2; Her Parents, Patrick and Laura Peterson; Her 2 sisters, Jennifer (Billy Bergeson) Peterson and Rebecca (Timothy) Roxx; nieces Avalyn and Aria Bergeson; nephew Stanley Roxx; Uncles; Isiah (Tyg) Cooper, Greg, Terry and Ronald Peterson; Aunts; Rhonda Cooper – Busch, Tracy Ledin, Paula Peterson, Brittney Cooper, Jane Korpi, Pattie Fralich- Peterson. Many cousins including Dane Michael, who was her best friend for life. So many special friends including but definitely not limited to: Ann Anderson, Jessica Niemi, Rachel Lara, Valerie DuPuis, April Schiller and Jarrett Hill.

Memorial Service will be 11 am, Saturday June 13, 2020 at the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W Superior St., Duluth MN. Visitation begins at 10, lunch to follow service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the MN Adult & Teen Challenge. A gofundme page is set up for Sara’s family.
