Name: Henry Rutledge
Location: Birmingham, Alabama
DOD: July 04, 2018
Joseph Henry Rutledge passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2018 in Birmingham , AL. Henry was born on July 8, 1987, and was only a few days shy of his 31st birthday upon his death. He was born and raised in Birmingham, graduating from Spain Park High School, where he excelled on the school golf team and made high marks consistently. He went on to attend The University of Alabama, and received his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law. Henry made his father extremely proud by joining the family law firm after passing the bar exam.
Henry was a wildly intelligent, tender hearted friend to all. These qualities, amongst many other positive traits that he uniquely possessed, were evident throughout his life-from his voracious love of reading, exceptional writing style, and success in both undergraduate and law school, to his hilarious, side splitting jokes and magnetic personality. Henry most enjoyed Alabama Football, his favorite band 311, golfing and being at the beach. Friends frequently remark that they have never met anyone as quick as Henry or who had as much potential for the future.
That bright light began to be snuffed out over several years of consistent and escalating drug use. While many efforts were made to get clean and receive treatment with the support of friends and family, addiction eclipsed any other facet of life. After the death of his mother 8 months prior, things quickly took a turn and continued to become increasingly worse. Henry’s belief in God provides peace to all his loved ones, as he had fully accepted Jesus into his heart and is now at peace.
He would not want to be remembered for these reasons. Instead, he would hope that his circumstances could somehow be a lesson to others struggling. Although the world was only blessed with his presence for a short time, his impact was meaningful and far reaching. He leaves a beautiful legacy behind in his 10 month old daughter.
Mr. Joseph Henry Rutledge II, born on July 8, 1987 in Birmingham, AL, 35209, to the late Sherry Crittenden Rutledge and William Eugene Rutledge, passed away at age 30 on July 4, 2018. He was an Attorney at Law at Rutledge Law Firm, LLC. Joseph was the beloved husband of Katie Rutledge. He is survived by his daughter, Lorelai Rose; Brother Bill Rutledge; and sisters, Helen Rutledge Wiley and Victoria Rutledge. Friends and family can pay their respects at the memorial service on Monday, July 9 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 1912 Canyon Rd, Birmingham.
