Border patrol agents seize nearly $3M in suspected meth, heroin in Hidalgo, Texas

HIDALGO, Texas — Officers with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in Hidalgo, Texas, arrested a 44-year-old Houston woman on Dec. 31, after discovering nearly $3 million worth of suspected methamphetamine and heroin concealed within the pickup truck she was driving.

According to the Office of Field Operations at the Hidalgo International Bridge, officers intercepted the U.S. citizen arriving from Mexico on New Year’s Eve in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. Inspection of the vehicle revealed 23 packages of suspected methamphetamine weighing nearly 137 pounds and two packages of suspected heroin weighing nearly eight pounds, concealed within the truck’s tires.

Both the narcotics and vehicle were seized, and the unidentified woman was taken into custody by agents with Homeland Security Investigations.
