Name: Adam Ruffino
Location: Portland, Maine
DOD: July 19, 2018
BUXTON – Adam Martin Ruffino was born Sept. 26, 1989 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Judith Ruffino. When he was 8-years-old his family moved to Maine where he grew up attending Portland schools. As a teen he spent most of his time with his friends and family on Munjoy Hill. Adam loved animals, especially reptiles (and his idol, crocodile hunter Steve Irwin) and enjoyed fishing, swimming, writing and the hustle of the city.
Adam was sadly discovered alone on the streets of Portland after an apparent drug overdose on July 19, 2018. Unfortunately for the last several years Adam had been battling a rapidly increasing heroin addiction. He had been clean for the last couple of months and relapsed last week after attempting to stay sober with the help of family members. During his brief stint with sobriety he was happy, vibrant, and full of laughter. Within that time Adam spoke of looking forward to the future for the first time in many years and we were hopeful that he was finally on the road to recovery, but life often has other plans.
Adam was predeceased by his mother, Judith; and his best friend, his beloved dog, Duke.
He is survived by his brothers, Frank Ruffino of Brooklyn, N.Y., Randy Ruffino of Sanford, Angelo Ruffino and his wife, Danielle, of Buxton, and Jessie Ruffino of Waterboro. He also leaves behind his niece and nephew, Korina and Frank Ruffino of New Jersey; as well as nephews, Trevor Ruffino and Bryson Knudsen of Sanford; a large extended family; and a few close friends who truly loved him and tried to help him throughout the years.
Cremation will be private with his ashes going home with his loving brother, Angelo, where he was staying safely the week before he lost his way. A public memorial will be organized and announced at a later date.
